A gutter is sized for your roof, not for your house.

Roof drainage area
Not the whole roof — the section that feeds each gutter run. A wall that sheds onto the roof adds to that area too.

Rainfall intensity
Storm drainage is sized for short, heavy rain, not for the yearly total. Knoxville follows the International Plumbing Code for this.

A larger profile carries more water, and the pitch set during install decides whether that water ever reaches the downspout.

STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY & HIDDEN DAMAGE POLICY
Damaged fascia gets addressed in a written Change Order before new gutters go up over it.
New gutters hung on rotted fascia will pull loose again — usually within a season, and usually taking more of the board with them. So we do not do it. When the board itself needs work, soffit and fascia repair is handled as part of the same project.
If rotted fascia, soffit damage, or hidden water intrusion is found during the project, a Change Order (CO) is issued before work continues.
