What we correct is the part you can see: where the downspout releases the water, and the path it takes from there. That can mean a secure extension, a different discharge direction, moving the release point away from a walkway or a planting bed, or carrying the water past the stretch of grade that is sending it back toward the house.
We do not publish a fixed distance for how far water should be carried, because there is no single correct number. How far is far enough depends on your grade, your soil, how the yard falls, and what sits downhill of the discharge point. That gets decided on the property, not on a web page.
When the problem is past the downspout
Some homes have the downspout feeding a buried line that carries water away underground. When that line blocks with leaves, silt or roots, water backs up and surfaces near the foundation — and from above it looks exactly like a gutter problem.
That buried line is outside our scope. MI Homesiding & Roofing works on the gutter and downspout system and on above-ground discharge. We do not install, repair or clear underground drainage lines. What we can do is tell you plainly when the visible system is sound and the problem is downstream of it, so you are not paying us to fix something that is not broken.
