MI Homesiding & Roofing
Roof replacement, repair, and storm damage work for Corryton and Gibbs homes — from the 1970s farms to the new construction on Honey Oaks.
Corryton is north Knox County ridge-and-valley country, and which way a house faces matters more here than in most of the places we work.
A north-facing slope gets thin winter sun and holds moisture for months at a time. The north side of a Corryton roof grows algae while the south side looks new, shingles on that slope age at a different rate than the rest of the roof, and north-side gutters stay full of wet debris that never dries out.
The housing runs from House Mountain Farms in 1979 through Honey Oaks finishing in 2024. We have contracted exterior renovation work in Corryton — siding, soffit, fascia, tongue and groove porch ceilings and gutters.
This page is part of our Corryton exterior services; for the wall side of the house see our Corryton siding page.

Mel was so easy to work with. We had him out because we needed to figure out how to fix a roof leak where the flashing wasn't done right (and part of the siding was also not right). He did a thorough inspection and explained to me what issues he saw. His quote was similar to the other we got. We ended up having him put on a new roof, with a new under shingle ventilation system and a roof vent. He also corrected siding issues (and flashing), fixed some rotten trim, and repainted part of the siding and trim. Everything looks great! His crews were very nice. Of all the contractors we've worked with on various renovations, Mel was easily one of the best at quickly responding when we had a question or saw an issue we wanted handled differently. We'll definitely hire him again if we need roof or siding work!Posted on Google![]()

Mel and his team were extremely thorough in identifying and correcting a water leakage problem from the top of our deck into the enclosed sun room below. They were both professional and courteous and provided great follow up after the job was completed. I highly recommend MI Homesiding & Roofing for any problem that involves water leakage into your home. I will definitely use MI in the future.Posted on Google![]()

Highly recommend MI Homesiding! They completed a major home exterior project for us including replacing and painting our siding as well as replacing our roofing and gutters. They did an excellent job and we began getting compliments immediately from our neighbors about it! Mel was very communicative and proactive, listened to our questions and ideas, and took care of things in a timely manner. His team was always professional and the work is just superb! We not only recommend MI Homesiding, we will be using them again for future projects ourselves.Posted on Google![]()

I found MI Homesiding & Roofing through their YouTube channel and called with a few questions about siding. Even though I’m not located in Tennessee and wouldn’t be hiring them directly, they answered the phone right away and took the time to answer every question in detail. They provided specific, helpful information and even assisted me in finding a contractor in my area. It’s rare to find a company so willing to help someone who isn’t even a local customer. Awesome people, excellent service, and truly knowledgeable. Thank you so much!Posted on Google![]()

Roof age here tracks the decade the street went in, and the terrain decides which slope goes first. Whichever slope fails first, the method is the same one set out on our Knoxville roofing page.
Late 1970s, with homes on record from 1979 onward.
Forty-five years on larger rural lots, often with mature tree cover. At that age the roof is several coverings deep and the ventilation is from an era that did not require much of it.
Late 1990s, with homes on record from 1997 and 1999.
Twenty-five years puts these at the end of the first roof’s service life. On ridge-and-valley terrain we quote the north elevation separately, because it is rarely in the same condition as the south. Our guide on how long a roof lasts in Tennessee covers what shortens that number.
Early 2000s, with homes on record from 2003.
Twenty years is when the components around the field start failing before the field does — pipe boots, sealants, and flashing at chimneys and wall transitions.
Late 2000s, with homes on record from 2009.
Fifteen years in, the material is usually sound and the attention goes to the details: valleys, penetrations, and whether the north slope has been holding moisture longer than the rest.
New construction, with homes on record from 2023.
The roofing material has decades left. What is worth documenting is what was installed and what the manufacturer requires for the warranty to stay valid.
The newest in Corryton, with homes from 2023 and 2024.
A baseline inspection catches anything missed during a fast build while a correction is still small and often still inside the builder’s warranty period.
Most roofing companies will not put a price on a page. We will. Below is our Selling Price per square for the systems we quote by unit. A square is 100 square feet of roof surface.
| Roofing System | Selling Price |
|---|---|
| Standing Seam Metal Roofing | $1,525.50 per SQ |
| Exposed-Fastener Metal Roofing | $1,062.00 per SQ |
On-site estimates are free for standard roof replacements. For complex inspections — active leaks, previous repair work, or conditions we cannot verify from the ground — we charge $350, credited back in full if you move forward.
We ask 33% at signing to cover materials. The rest is tied to progress on the job. Never half up front.
📞 (865) 243-1243In ridge-and-valley country, the two sides of the same roof are not the same roof.
A north-facing slope in Corryton gets thin winter sun and stays damp for months. Algae takes hold, moss follows in the valleys, and the shingle on that slope loses granules faster than the identical shingle twelve feet away on the south side. Meanwhile the north gutters sit full of wet debris that never dries, and the fascia behind them takes the consequence.
The south side, on the same house, can look almost new. When wind or hail is the cause rather than exposure, that is storm damage roof repair and it gets documented as such.
We quote the north elevation of a Corryton home separately, because treating both sides of the same house as one job is how you end up redoing half of it.
The shortcut we see most often in Corryton is quoting the house as one roof.
Same shingle count, same crew hours, same price per square on both slopes. That works everywhere except here. The north slope has been holding moisture for years while the south side stayed dry, so the two sides are not in the same condition and do not need the same work. A quote that ignores that is a quote for half the job.
When the cheap version fails, it fails on the shaded side, eighteen months later, and the homeowner pays twice for the same slope.
We inspect and price the elevations separately, and the estimate says which slope needs what.
If structural rot, damaged decking, or compromised framing is discovered during tear-off, we stop and document it with photos. We explain what we found and why it matters, then provide a written Change Order before moving forward.
Hidden damage is documented and priced in a written Change Order before new work goes over it.
We walk the roof and check the attic. Deck condition, ventilation, flashing at every transition, and any evidence of previous repair work. The north and south elevations are inspected and priced separately, because on this terrain they are rarely in the same condition.
Itemized by tear-off, underlayment, shingle, flashing, ventilation, and decking allowance. You see what each line costs.
Old material comes off and the deck gets inspected before anything new goes down. Decking replacement is priced by the sheet.
Underlayment, starter, drip edge, field, ridge cap, pipe boots, collars, and flashing at every penetration and transition.
Sized to the attic, not to what was there before. Old vents are removed or closed as the new system requires.
Site cleared, magnet run, and a final walkthrough before we leave.
Our team works exteriors across East Tennessee, backed by more than 20 years of hands-on construction and exterior remodeling experience, and roofing sits alongside the siding, soffit and fascia and gutter work that connects to it. On a shaded north elevation those trades meet in the same few inches, which is exactly where the damage shows up — and a crew that only does roofs will hand you a second phone number when it does.
As a GAF Certified Residential Roofing Contractor, we can offer GAF’s System Plus Limited Warranty on qualifying roofing systems, subject to GAF eligibility, terms, and conditions.

We also cover the rest of the exterior in Corryton: siding, windows, decks and exterior painting.
We serve Corryton, Gibbs and the surrounding communities across north Knox County and Union County, working within surrounding East Tennessee of Knoxville.
Rural Knox County property, where access and tree cover do more to a roof than age does.
What the written estimate itemizes. Tear-off and disposal, the shingle or panel line by name, underlayment and where the ice-and-water barrier goes, starter strip and ridge cap as separate items, flashing by type, ventilation, a decking repair allowance, and the permit. When two quotes are far apart, the gap is nearly always in flashing, ventilation or decking.
How long it takes. Most of our roofing projects run approximately one to two working days. That is the typical range rather than a promise about your roof: size and pitch, access, how many tear-off layers come off, the material, the condition of the decking once it is open, ventilation work, the weather window and anything hidden we find can all move it.
Two warranties, not one. The manufacturer covers the product; we cover the installation. As a GAF Certified Residential Roofing Contractor we can offer GAF’s System Plus Limited Warranty on qualifying systems, subject to GAF eligibility, terms and conditions. Our own workmanship warranty runs one year on a repair and five years on a replacement.
Permits. Corryton sits in Knox County, so a roofing permit is issued by the codes authority covering that address rather than by the City of Knoxville. For reference, inside the Knoxville city limits the city exempts roofing only where the first layer of shingles is kept intact and a second is laid over it — a tear-off does not qualify — and Knox County Codes Administration covers unincorporated Knox County. Both have adopted the 2018 International Residential Code. We confirm what your address requires before the proposal goes out.
Paying for it. Financing options may be available through a third-party financing partner, subject to approval and the provider’s terms. We are not the lender, and the terms come from the provider.

That depends on roof size, pitch and whether decking needs replacing — we price it per square against your measured roof rather than quoting one blanket figure for every house. The written estimate itemizes tear-off, underlayment, shingle, flashing, ventilation and a decking allowance as separate lines, and the section above publishes our per-square Selling Price for the metal systems we quote by unit.
Because in ridge-and-valley terrain it usually is. A north-facing slope holds moisture for months at a time and ages faster than the south side of the same roof. We inspect and price the elevations separately rather than averaging them.
Not by itself. It means that slope is not drying, which is normal here. What matters is what the constant damp has done to the granules, the valleys and the flashing, and that is a question for an inspection rather than for the view from the driveway.
At that age the covering has been replaced several times already, so the questions are the decking and the ventilation. On rural lots with mature tree cover, debris in the valleys is usually part of the story too.
Yes. We document the damage with photos, provide the written scope, and work with the adjuster through the claim.
We stop, photograph it, and issue a written Change Order priced by the sheet before continuing. On a north slope that has been holding moisture, some decking replacement is not unusual.
Whether the house is forty-five years old in House Mountain Farms or new on Honey Oaks, the answer starts on the slope that never sees the sun.
