Mel was so easy to work with. We had him out because we needed to figure out how to fix a roof leak where the flashing wasn't done right (and part of the siding was also not right). He did a thorough inspection and explained to me what issues he saw. His quote was similar to the other we got. We ended up having him put on a new roof, with a new under shingle ventilation system and a roof vent. He also corrected siding issues (and flashing), fixed some rotten trim, and repainted part of the siding and trim. Everything looks great! His crews were very nice. Of all the contractors we've worked with on various renovations, Mel was easily one of the best at quickly responding when we had a question or saw an issue we wanted handled differently. We'll definitely hire him again if we need roof or siding work!Posted on Google![]()

Mel and his team were extremely thorough in identifying and correcting a water leakage problem from the top of our deck into the enclosed sun room below. They were both professional and courteous and provided great follow up after the job was completed. I highly recommend MI Homesiding & Roofing for any problem that involves water leakage into your home. I will definitely use MI in the future.Posted on Google![]()

Highly recommend MI Homesiding! They completed a major home exterior project for us including replacing and painting our siding as well as replacing our roofing and gutters. They did an excellent job and we began getting compliments immediately from our neighbors about it! Mel was very communicative and proactive, listened to our questions and ideas, and took care of things in a timely manner. His team was always professional and the work is just superb! We not only recommend MI Homesiding, we will be using them again for future projects ourselves.Posted on Google![]()

I found MI Homesiding & Roofing through their YouTube channel and called with a few questions about siding. Even though I’m not located in Tennessee and wouldn’t be hiring them directly, they answered the phone right away and took the time to answer every question in detail. They provided specific, helpful information and even assisted me in finding a contractor in my area. It’s rare to find a company so willing to help someone who isn’t even a local customer. Awesome people, excellent service, and truly knowledgeable. Thank you so much!Posted on Google![]()

Walland is an unincorporated community in Blount County, at the foot of Chilhowee Mountain on the Little River. We serve it and the communities around it:
and the rest of Blount County, with broader exterior remodeling service across Knoxville and East Tennessee.
Looking for one trade in particular? See our Walland roofing page or our Walland siding page.
The fascia is the board the gutter hangs on. The soffit is the panel tucked in underneath, and on most Walland houses it is the vented one that feeds air into the attic. Under a canopy that keeps the roofline wet, those two take the damage before the roof does.
It runs in the same order on a lot of these houses. The drainage system takes more water at the eave than it can receive, so it spills at the corners. The water runs down the back of the fascia, where nobody looks, and the board goes soft. By the time the paint looks bad the rot is well underway. Then the soffit stops venting — the bay is blocked, or the panel has pulled away — and an attic that cannot breathe keeps the shingles damp from underneath.
The old gutter comes down first and we look at the fascia and the soffit behind it. If something is rotten you get photographs and a written Change Order before the new gutters go up: the board gets put right first, because it is what the gutter hangs on. Our workmanship warranty on this work is 5 years; the materials carry their own manufacturer warranty, which is a separate thing.
Going deeper: soffit and fascia repair, including vented soffit and attic intake, and seamless gutter installation on how the size is actually decided.
It is almost never one thing, and it is almost never just the width of the gutter. On a sloped roof the usual causes are:
Metal roofs are worth a separate word: a smooth metal surface sheds water quickly, so capacity, gutter position, downspouts and any guard deserve closer attention than on a shingle roof of the same size. Flat roofs are not part of this at all — they drain by their own design and the logic above does not transfer.
Walland is an unincorporated community in Blount County, not an incorporated town, so there is no separate city codes office to work out. Permits and inspections for a Walland address go to Blount County Development Services, 303 McGhee Street in Maryville, (865) 681-9301, which enforces the 2018 International Code Council regulations.
The towns around it are not so simple. Maryville moved to the 2024 IRC on 1 January 2026, Alcoa lists the 2018 IRC, Louisville adopts the 2018 IRC with amendments of its own, and Rockford adopts no IRC edition at all. Walland is the one address in this county where the answer is the same every time.
Yes. We work with homeowners in Walland on siding, roofing, decks, gutters, painting, and window projects.
We often see moisture damage, roof leaks after storms, deck wear from humidity, and drainage problems caused by heavy rain.
We do both. If a repair is enough, we’ll recommend that instead of a full replacement.
Yes. Many problems come from improper flashing or rushed work, and we focus on fixing the root cause.
Yes. We provide clear, no-pressure estimates for homeowners in Walland and nearby areas.
Walland sits on the Little River at the foot of Chilhowee Mountain, where the Smokies start. The National Park Service puts rainfall in the park’s lowlands at 55 inches a year, rising to 85 inches at Kuwohi, its highest point — well above what the valley floor sees. That, heavy tree cover, and a canopy that keeps roofs in shade most of the day are what an exterior has to handle here.
The combination is hard on a roof. Wet leaf litter sits in the valleys and behind the chimney instead of blowing off, gutters carry more volume than a standard system was sized for, and shaded slopes never get the dry spell they need to shed moss.
On Walland homes we size gutters for actual mountain rainfall rather than the regional average, and we check the roof valleys and flashing where debris collects.
The shortcut is pricing a gutter by the foot without looking at the roof above it.
Rainfall is the first input, not the whole answer. What actually reaches the eave depends on the roof drainage area, the pitch, and how the roof concentrates water — a long valley emptying into one corner is a different problem from an open run. Whether the system can take it depends on the gutter width and capacity, the outlet size, how many downspouts there are and where they sit, the gutter’s position, and the leaf-protection system if one is fitted. When the water arriving is more than the system can receive and drain, it goes over the edge — and on a house like this the overflow runs down the back of the fascia and behind the soffit.
We measure the roof area and the pitch, look at where the water concentrates, and size the gutter, the outlets and the downspouts together. A 6-inch K-style gutter carries materially more than a typical 5-inch system, and we commonly recommend it where the roof geometry and the expected volume justify the extra capacity. We do not fit 6-inch everywhere by default, and a well-placed 5-inch system is the right answer on plenty of houses. We also keep the valleys and the flashing clear of what the canopy drops.
If structural rot, hidden water damage, or compromised framing is discovered during the project, we stop and document the problem with photos. We explain what we found and why it matters, then provide a written Change Order before moving forward.
Hidden damage gets documented and priced, not covered over.
Tell us what you are seeing and we will take a look. Free estimates, clear pricing, and a licensed, insured crew that does what it says.
