MI Homesiding & Roofing
Been quoted for new gutters? Ask whether the quote moves the downspouts, or just hangs new metal where the old metal was.
Seamless gutter replacement, repair and guards across Newport, Tennessee and Cocke County — re-planned around the roof, not copied off what was there before.
More Newport homeowners search for gutter replacement than for anything else to do with gutters, so it is worth being blunt about what most replacement quotes actually are.
In the ordinary version, the old trough comes down and new trough goes up in exactly the same place. Same hanger positions. Same number of outlets. Same downspouts coming down in the same corners. Same fall, give or take. The metal is new and the system is identical — which means that if the old gutter overflowed at the back corner every autumn, the new one will too.
That is not a swindle. It is just what replacing a gutter means if nobody stops to ask what the roof above it is doing. But it is also why people replace gutters and then tell us, a year later, that the problem never went away.
A replacement worth paying for starts a step earlier: how much roof drains into each run, where the water concentrates by the time it reaches the eave, how many outlets that run needs and where they should be, and whether the downspouts are coming down somewhere sensible. Then the metal goes up.

Mel was so easy to work with. We had him out because we needed to figure out how to fix a roof leak where the flashing wasn't done right (and part of the siding was also not right). He did a thorough inspection and explained to me what issues he saw. His quote was similar to the other we got. We ended up having him put on a new roof, with a new under shingle ventilation system and a roof vent. He also corrected siding issues (and flashing), fixed some rotten trim, and repainted part of the siding and trim. Everything looks great! His crews were very nice. Of all the contractors we've worked with on various renovations, Mel was easily one of the best at quickly responding when we had a question or saw an issue we wanted handled differently. We'll definitely hire him again if we need roof or siding work!Posted on Google![]()

Mel and his team were extremely thorough in identifying and correcting a water leakage problem from the top of our deck into the enclosed sun room below. They were both professional and courteous and provided great follow up after the job was completed. I highly recommend MI Homesiding & Roofing for any problem that involves water leakage into your home. I will definitely use MI in the future.Posted on Google![]()

Highly recommend MI Homesiding! They completed a major home exterior project for us including replacing and painting our siding as well as replacing our roofing and gutters. They did an excellent job and we began getting compliments immediately from our neighbors about it! We not only recommend MI Homesiding, we will be using them again for future projects ourselves.Posted on Google![]()

I found MI Homesiding & Roofing through their YouTube channel and called with a few questions about siding. Even though I’m not located in Tennessee and wouldn’t be hiring them directly, they answered the phone right away and took the time to answer every question in detail. They provided specific, helpful information and even assisted me in finding a contractor in my area. It’s rare to find a company so willing to help someone who isn’t even a local customer. Awesome people, excellent service, and truly knowledgeable. Thank you so much!Posted on Google![]()

If you are comparing quotes in Newport, these are the things that separate them, and most of them are invisible on a one-line price.
Ask any contractor you are considering which of those their price covers. It is a fair question and the answer tells you a lot.
Gutter is formed on site. A coil of flat aluminum goes through a roll-former on the truck and comes out as a single continuous length cut to your run, which is why there are no joints along it — only at corners and outlets, where they belong and can be detailed properly.
On a straightforward Newport house the whole thing is usually one day. Old system down and away, fascia checked where every hanger lands, lengths formed and hung to a measured fall, outlets cut where the water actually needs to leave, downspouts run and strapped, and the site cleared. If we find rot in the fascia once the old gutter is off, work stops on that section and you get photographs and a written change order before anything else happens. We do not cover hidden damage behind new work without telling you first.
The crew that quotes the job is the crew that does it. There is no subcontracted third party turning up with a different understanding of what was agreed.
Newport has heavy tree cover in a lot of places, and guards come up more here than in most of the towns we work in. They are worth having in the right situation, and they are worth understanding before you buy them.
A guard stops being an accessory the moment it is fitted: it becomes part of the drainage system. Some designs limit how fast water can get into the trough during heavy rain, which can produce water running over the front edge of a gutter that is completely clean inside. If a guarded run is spilling, the guard belongs in the diagnosis rather than being ruled out of it.
What a guard genuinely does well is cut down how often a run fills with leaf litter and needles. What it does not do is make a gutter bigger, fix a run with one outlet doing the work of two, or compensate for fall that was never set properly. We will tell you where a guard helps and where it would be covering up something else — see gutter guards for how we approach them, and gutter cleaning if clearing the existing system is what you actually need.
Plenty of the calls that start as "I need new gutters" turn out not to. A single leaking seam, one separated downspout, a length damaged by a limb, an outlet in the wrong place — all of those are repairs, and none of them justifies replacing a sound system.
The same goes for a run that is sagging or holding water. If the trough itself is in good condition and the fascia behind it is solid, resetting the fall and adding outlets where they are needed usually brings the whole thing back for a fraction of the cost of replacement.
Replacement earns its place when the metal is finished: corroded through, repeatedly split at the seams, deformed, or genuinely undersized for the roof draining into it. We will say which of the three your house needs. See gutter repair and gutter replacement.
There is no rule that says a house needs six inch gutters, and anyone quoting one without looking at the roof is guessing. Capacity depends on the whole system: rainfall intensity, the roof area draining into that run, how steep the plane is, how concentrated the runoff is at the eave, trough width, outlet size, the number and position of downspouts, where the gutter sits relative to the roof edge, and any guard in the way.
A six inch K-style does hold materially more than a typical five inch, and we recommend it where the geometry and expected volume justify it. But on most houses the outlet is the restriction before the trough is — a long run with a single downspout at one end will struggle at any width, while two well-placed outlets on a five inch run will often outperform one on a six.
So the size comes out of the measurements rather than going in as an assumption.
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Seamless gutter, supplied and installed | $15.25 / linear foot |
| Downspout, supplied and installed | $15.25 / linear foot |
| Each elbow | Counts as 1 ft |
| Technical Assessment, if one is needed | $350, credited back |
Elbows count as a foot each instead of being priced as separate parts, so you can check a quote against the measurements of your own house rather than taking it on trust.
The $350 Technical Assessment is not charged on every job. It is for the cases that need investigating rather than quoting — water showing up somewhere that does not line up with the run above it. It comes off the price in full if you go ahead. For how gutter pricing works generally, see gutter cost.
Financing is available through a third-party lender for homeowners who would rather spread the cost. Approval, rates and terms are set by the lender, not by us, and we make no promise about what you will be offered.
On standard projects we take 33% at signing, with the balance structured around the work, set out in writing before anything starts.
Here is what we can tell you from the City of Newport's own published pages, and what we cannot.
The city runs its own Community Development department, which lists a Building Inspector and a Codes Enforcement Officer and handles building permits. Applications are made on the city's General Building Permit Application and submitted to that office rather than to the county.
What the city does not publish online is which code editions it has adopted, or a list of the work that does and does not need a permit. We are not going to put a code year on this page that we could not verify from the city itself, and we are not going to tell you on their behalf that gutter, soffit or fascia work is exempt.
What that means in practice: if a job reaches the point where a permit is a fair question, we raise it and we ask the city rather than guessing. If your property sits outside the city limits, the county is the authority instead, and that is worth establishing before work starts rather than after.
Because the replacement almost certainly copied the old system — same outlet count, same downspout positions, same fall. New metal does not change how much water arrives or where it can leave. The fix is usually adding or moving an outlet, not going bigger.
At minimum: how many outlets each run gets and where, where the downspouts will discharge, hanger spacing, and what happens if the fascia turns out to be rotten. If a quote does not mention any of that, it is pricing metal rather than a drainage system.
It depends on the roof, not a rule. Six inch holds materially more and takes a larger outlet, and we recommend it where the geometry justifies it. On many houses the outlet is the restriction before the trough is, so two well-placed downspouts on a five inch run can beat one on a six.
In the right situation, yes — they cut down how often a run fills with leaf litter. They do not make a gutter bigger or fix a run with too few outlets, and some designs limit how fast water can enter during heavy rain. We assess a guard as part of the system rather than on its own.
Often, and we will say so. A seam, a downspout, a damaged length or an outlet in the wrong place are repairs. If the trough is sound and the fascia behind it is solid, re-hanging to a proper fall usually brings the system back.
The city does not publish a list of what requires a permit, and we will not tell you it is exempt on their behalf. The City of Newport's Community Development office issues building permits and is the place that settles it for your address.
Our workmanship warranty is five years on a replacement and one year on a repair. It covers our workmanship and is not transferable. Any manufacturer warranty on the material is separate and comes from the manufacturer on their terms.
We replace, repair and re-hang gutters across Newport, Tennessee and the rest of Cocke County, and in the communities around it: Morristown, Dandridge, Sevierville and Gatlinburg.
Working on more than the gutters? Our Newport exterior contractor page covers the whole exterior, and there are dedicated pages for roofing in Newport and siding in Newport. For how the system works in general, see our gutter services page.
Tell us what the water is doing and we will come and look at it. If a repair will hold, that is what we will quote.
