Mel was so easy to work with. We had him out because we needed to figure out how to fix a roof leak where the flashing wasn't done right (and part of the siding was also not right). He did a thorough inspection and explained to me what issues he saw. His quote was similar to the other we got. We ended up having him put on a new roof, with a new under shingle ventilation system and a roof vent. He also corrected siding issues (and flashing), fixed some rotten trim, and repainted part of the siding and trim. Everything looks great! His crews were very nice. Of all the contractors we've worked with on various renovations, Mel was easily one of the best at quickly responding when we had a question or saw an issue we wanted handled differently. We'll definitely hire him again if we need roof or siding work!

Mel and his team were extremely thorough in identifying and correcting a water leakage problem from the top of our deck into the enclosed sun room below. They were both professional and courteous and provided great follow up after the job was completed. I highly recommend MI Homesiding & Roofing for any problem that involves water leakage into your home. I will definitely use MI in the future.

Highly recommend MI Homesiding! They completed a major home exterior project for us including replacing and painting our siding as well as replacing our roofing and gutters. They did an excellent job and we began getting compliments immediately from our neighbors about it! Mel was very communicative and proactive, listened to our questions and ideas, and took care of things in a timely manner. His team was always professional and the work is just superb! We not only recommend MI Homesiding, we will be using them again for future projects ourselves.

I found MI Homesiding & Roofing through their YouTube channel and called with a few questions about siding. Even though I’m not located in Tennessee and wouldn’t be hiring them directly, they answered the phone right away and took the time to answer every question in detail. They provided specific, helpful information and even assisted me in finding a contractor in my area. It’s rare to find a company so willing to help someone who isn’t even a local customer. Awesome people, excellent service, and truly knowledgeable. Thank you so much!

The Video Says it All…. From Hardie Board Siding , To Roofing and Flashing to Painting..THEY DO IT ALL Exceptionally Well! I Highly Recommend MI Siding And Mr Mel (Sorry, Out of Breath) just came from a Run..

Alcoa has a unique housing history in Blount County.

Many homes were built during the aluminum plant era — solid mid-century houses with original wood siding or 70s vinyl re-covers that hide decades of moisture damage.

Newer Alcoa subdivisions near McGhee Tyson and along the Maryville border face a different problem — rushed installation, tight panels, and flashing details that fail after the first few wet seasons.

We install and repair siding on both kinds of homes — and the approach is completely different for each.

For full exterior projects, see our Alcoa exterior contractor page and Alcoa roofing page.

Common Siding Problems in Alcoa

The most common siding problems we see across Alcoa:

Mid-century mill-era homes: original wood siding with hidden rot under multiple vinyl re-covers, failed flashing around chimneys, and decades of trim damage from humidity.

70s–90s neighborhoods: aging vinyl that has cracked, warped, or pulled away from corners. Soft trim around windows from years of caulking failure.

Newer subdivisions: improper installation, tight panels, gaps behind J-channels, and missing flashing at wall transitions.

Which Code Applies to Your Alcoa Address

An Alcoa mailing address does not always mean the City of Alcoa issues your permit, and the two authorities are not currently working to the same code edition. That is worth knowing before anyone quotes you.

  • Inside the Alcoa city limits. Building and Codes Enforcement lists the 2018 International Residential Code, along with the 2018 building, mechanical and plumbing codes and the 2017 National Electrical Code. The city notes that certain adopted codes have been amended from time to time, so the current requirement is whatever Codes confirms for your address. Planning and Codes is at 223 Associates Boulevard, (865) 380-4730, Monday to Friday 8:00–4:30.
  • In unincorporated Blount County. A different office. Blount County Development Services states that it enforces the residential and commercial regulations of the 2018 International Code Council edition through plan review and inspection, from 303 McGhee Street, (865) 681-9301.

And a detail most homeowners never hear: neighboring Maryville adopted the 2024 International Residential Code effective 1 January 2026. Two Blount County cities a few minutes apart, two different residential code editions. Alcoa and Maryville are not interchangeable on this point, whatever a quote implies.

The city's own permit examples are new construction, demolition, deck installation and additions. It does not publish a roofing or siding rule, so whether your particular job needs a permit depends on your address and scope, and that call belongs to Codes rather than to a contractor. We tell you which authority you fall under and what we are submitting. Confirm your own project with that office before work starts.

Why Cheap Siding Fails

A low siding quote in Alcoa usually means cuts the homeowner cannot see.

Cheap installs skip flashing tapes, ignore moisture barriers, use weak fastening, and treat every house the same — regardless of age, exposure, or condition.

The house looks fine the day the crew leaves. The next storm or humid summer exposes the shortcuts.

Most of the siding jobs we redo in Alcoa started as a cheap install from another contractor who never addressed the real cause. See our improper siding installation repair page for more.

Hidden Damage Policy

If hidden rot, damaged sheathing, framing issues, or moisture damage are discovered during the project, we stop and document the problem with photos.

We explain it clearly and provide a written Change Order before moving forward.

Hidden damage is documented and priced in a written Change Order before new siding goes over it.

Working With Us in Alcoa: Estimate, Schedule and Warranty

Mid-century housing stock, where the sheathing behind the cladding is frequently not what the age of the siding suggests.

What the written estimate itemizes. Square footage by elevation, the product line and profile by name, the weather-resistive barrier, flashing at every opening and transition, trim, fasteners, caulking and finish, an allowance for sheathing repair, and removal and disposal of the existing cladding. Where two siding quotes differ sharply, the gap is almost always in the barrier, the flashing and the sheathing allowance.

How long it takes. A typical full siding replacement may take about one to two weeks of working time, depending on home size, material, weather, access, hidden damage and project scope. That is an expectation rather than a guarantee, and we do not promise a fixed completion date.

Two warranties, not one. The manufacturer covers the product and we cover the installation. Our workmanship warranty is a one-year limited warranty on siding work, and five years on a full James Hardie replacement. We publish both rather than one blanket figure.

Paying for it. Financing options may be available through a third-party financing partner, subject to approval and the provider’s terms. We are not the lender.

Siding in Alcoa, and the Rest of What We Do There

This page is about siding specifically in Alcoa: the materials we install, repair and full replacement, what the written estimate itemizes, how long the work takes and what the warranty covers.

FAQs – Siding Contractor in Alcoa, TN

Do you work on older mid-century homes in Alcoa?

Yes. We have experience with the older mill-era homes around Alcoa. These houses often have hidden damage under newer vinyl layers — we inspect carefully and replace what is actually failing, not just what shows from the street.

Do you work in both Alcoa and Maryville?

Yes. Alcoa and Maryville share the same housing patterns and weather exposure. We work across both cities and the rest of Blount County.

Do you offer free siding estimates in Alcoa?

Yes. On-site siding estimates are free for standard projects across Alcoa. For complex inspections involving older homes or suspected hidden damage, we offer a $350 Technical Assessment that is credited back if you move forward with the project.

What happens if you find hidden damage during the siding job?

If we find rot, damaged sheathing, or moisture damage behind the existing siding, we stop and document it with photos. We explain the scope and provide a written Change Order before continuing. Hidden damage is documented and priced in a written Change Order before any new material goes over it.

Do you handle storm damage and insurance claims?

Yes. We document hail and wind damage clearly, provide accurate material takeoffs, and work alongside your insurance adjuster on siding claims.

How long does siding last in Alcoa?

Service life depends on the specific product, the quality of the installation, how water is managed behind the wall, exposure and maintenance more than on the material name. What is documented is warranty coverage: James Hardie carries a 30-year limited non-prorated warranty and LP SmartSide a 5/50 limited warranty, while generic vinyl, cedar and metal products vary by manufacturer. Alcoa's foothills humidity and valley wind can shorten service life if installation details are skipped.

Ready to Get Started?

If your Alcoa home has loose panels, leaks, rotted trim, or original siding from decades ago, now is the time to act.
