MI Homesiding & Roofing
Protect your deck from Tennessee humidity, rain, and UV — with Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck and premium sealants built to last.
Outdoor wood takes the worst of Knoxville's rain, humidity, and UV exposure.
Without proper staining and sealing, deck boards gray, crack, and eventually rot.
Good staining is mostly preparation. The product only performs on wood that was ready for it.

Mel was so easy to work with. We had him out because we needed to figure out how to fix a roof leak where the flashing wasn't done right (and part of the siding was also not right). He did a thorough inspection and explained to me what issues he saw. His quote was similar to the other we got. We ended up having him put on a new roof, with a new under shingle ventilation system and a roof vent. He also corrected siding issues (and flashing), fixed some rotten trim, and repainted part of the siding and trim. Everything looks great! His crews were very nice. Of all the contractors we've worked with on various renovations, Mel was easily one of the best at quickly responding when we had a question or saw an issue we wanted handled differently. We'll definitely hire him again if we need roof or siding work!Posted on Google![]()

Mel and his team were extremely thorough in identifying and correcting a water leakage problem from the top of our deck into the enclosed sun room below. They were both professional and courteous and provided great follow up after the job was completed. I highly recommend MI Homesiding & Roofing for any problem that involves water leakage into your home. I will definitely use MI in the future.Posted on Google![]()

Highly recommend MI Homesiding! They completed a major home exterior project for us including replacing and painting our siding as well as replacing our roofing and gutters. They did an excellent job and we began getting compliments immediately from our neighbors about it! Mel was very communicative and proactive, listened to our questions and ideas, and took care of things in a timely manner. His team was always professional and the work is just superb! We not only recommend MI Homesiding, we will be using them again for future projects ourselves.Posted on Google![]()

I found MI Homesiding & Roofing through their YouTube channel and called with a few questions about siding. Even though I’m not located in Tennessee and wouldn’t be hiring them directly, they answered the phone right away and took the time to answer every question in detail. They provided specific, helpful information and even assisted me in finding a contractor in my area. It’s rare to find a company so willing to help someone who isn’t even a local customer. Awesome people, excellent service, and truly knowledgeable. Thank you so much!Posted on Google![]()

Applying stain to a dirty deck = failure in 6 months.
Skipping wood brightener = uneven color and blotchy finish.
Using cheap deck stain = fades in 1 season under Tennessee sun.
Applying stain to wet wood = peeling and adhesion problems.
Not addressing rot before staining = bigger repairs later.

We serve Knoxville and our East Tennessee service area, including
and surrounding areas.
Stain is a finish, not a repair. Applied over wood that is already failing it hides the problem and shortens the life of the coating.
What the written estimate itemizes. Deck area and shape, the framing — joist size and spacing, beam and post sizing — footings and their depth, how the deck attaches to the house and how that connection is flashed, the decking product and its fastening method, railings and stairs, the permit, and an allowance for structural repair found once the surface is off. Where two deck quotes differ sharply, the gap is almost always in the framing, the footings and the ledger connection — the parts nobody sees once the boards go down.
How long it takes. Most deck repairs run about one to two working days, depending on the size of the repair, access, weather, what we find once boards come up, any change orders and material availability. Larger structural scopes take longer, and we tell you when we find them rather than afterwards.
Our workmanship warranty. Deck work carries a five-year limited workmanship warranty, subject to the signed agreement and the scope of work defined in it. Manufacturer coverage on the decking boards, fasteners and hardware is separate and comes from those manufacturers rather than from us.

Selected Sherwin-Williams exterior coatings may include a limited manufacturer warranty. Coverage depends on the specific product and its preparation, application, ownership, and warranty requirements. Manufacturer coverage applies to the coating or product and does not automatically cover MI Homesiding & Roofing labor.
This is worth being specific about, because deck and fence coatings are not covered on the same terms as house paint. Manufacturer coverage on exterior coatings is set per product: the published warranty on Sherwin-Williams exterior house paints such as SuperPaint and Emerald is a Lifetime Limited Warranty, while the published warranty on SuperDeck Waterborne Semi-Transparent Stain is a 3-Year Limited Warranty. Same manufacturer, different coverage, because they are different products doing different jobs.
On both, the published terms are narrow in the same way: coverage is for peeling or blistering, the remedy is replacement product or a refund of the purchase price, labor is excluded, and failure caused by improper surface preparation is excluded. The stain warranty is also made to the original residential purchaser and is not transferable.
There is a second reason the numbers differ. A penetrating semi-transparent stain is designed to wear away gradually rather than peel, so it asks to be renewed on a cycle instead of failing dramatically. A film-forming coating behaves differently. Anyone selling you a deck stain as a once-and-done job is selling you the wrong expectation.
So when we quote staining, we tell you which product, what its documentation covers, and roughly when it will want attention again — not that it is “built to last”.
The technical guidance above follows the published application, surface-preparation and warranty documentation for the coatings we specify. Requirements and coverage vary by product, so the governing document is always the current data sheet and warranty for the exact coating named on your project. MI Homesiding & Roofing maintains a Sherwin-Williams PRO+ professional contractor account, providing access to contractor pricing, professional products and business resources. We are not a certified, preferred, approved or authorized Sherwin-Williams contractor, and we do not claim to be.
We stain and seal decks across Knoxville and the surrounding East Tennessee communities, including Farragut, Maryville, Alcoa, Oak Ridge, Powell, Halls, Clinton, Lenoir City, Seymour and Corryton.
It depends on the product and the exposure rather than on one schedule. The figure we can point to is the manufacturer’s: SuperDeck Waterborne Semi-Transparent Stain carries a 3-Year Limited Warranty against peeling and blistering, and a penetrating semi-transparent stain is designed to wear away gradually rather than peel. More pigment generally means longer between recoats, so a solid stain holds longer than a semi-transparent one and a clear sealer the least of the four. South and west exposures and decks near sprinklers wear fastest. We tell you which product went on your deck and roughly when it will want attention.
