Gutter guards reduce how much debris gets into your gutters.
If you are tired of climbing a ladder every season, guards are worth looking at — on the right house they can cut how often the gutters need clearing. What they will not do is end maintenance altogether, and no one who tells you otherwise has been up on your roof.
We will look at what is overhanging your roof and what condition the gutters are in now, then give you a straight answer about whether guards make sense here. If they do not, we will say so.

Mel was so easy to work with. We had him out because we needed to figure out how to fix a roof leak where the flashing wasn't done right (and part of the siding was also not right). He did a thorough inspection and explained to me what issues he saw. His quote was similar to the other we got. We ended up having him put on a new roof, with a new under shingle ventilation system and a roof vent. He also corrected siding issues (and flashing), fixed some rotten trim, and repainted part of the siding and trim. Everything looks great! His crews were very nice. Of all the contractors we've worked with on various renovations, Mel was easily one of the best at quickly responding when we had a question or saw an issue we wanted handled differently. We'll definitely hire him again if we need roof or siding work!Posted on Google![]()

Mel and his team were extremely thorough in identifying and correcting a water leakage problem from the top of our deck into the enclosed sun room below. They were both professional and courteous and provided great follow up after the job was completed. I highly recommend MI Homesiding & Roofing for any problem that involves water leakage into your home. I will definitely use MI in the future.Posted on Google![]()

Highly recommend MI Homesiding! They completed a major home exterior project for us including replacing and painting our siding as well as replacing our roofing and gutters. They did an excellent job and we began getting compliments immediately from our neighbors about it! Mel was very communicative and proactive, listened to our questions and ideas, and took care of things in a timely manner. His team was always professional and the work is just superb! We not only recommend MI Homesiding, we will be using them again for future projects ourselves.Posted on Google![]()

I found MI Homesiding & Roofing through their YouTube channel and called with a few questions about siding. Even though I’m not located in Tennessee and wouldn’t be hiring them directly, they answered the phone right away and took the time to answer every question in detail. They provided specific, helpful information and even assisted me in finding a contractor in my area. It’s rare to find a company so willing to help someone who isn’t even a local customer. Awesome people, excellent service, and truly knowledgeable. Thank you so much!Posted on Google![]()

Keep bulk debris out
A guard stops leaves, twigs and roof debris from dropping straight into the gutter, so the run fills far more slowly.
Keep water going where it should
A gutter that stays clear keeps carrying water to the downspout instead of over the front edge toward the wall and the foundation.
Discourage nesting
A covered gutter is a far less inviting place for birds and rodents to build in than an open trough full of debris.
Take load off the run
Wet debris is heavy. Keeping the bulk of it out means less weight pulling on the hangers over the years.
Guards get fitted to the gutters you already have, so the condition of those gutters decides whether the job is worth doing at all.

Are your current guards sagging, cracked, or still letting debris through? Thin plastic covers and foam inserts tend to break down after a few years in Tennessee humidity, and a failed guard is worse than none at all — it keeps debris in and keeps you out.
If your existing guards still require you to get up a ladder every season, they are not doing their job. What a replacement involves:
This is the part most guard pages leave out, so we will say it plainly.
They do not end maintenance. Debris still collects on top of a guard, and fine material — roof grit, seed, pine needles — can still work through. Guards change how often the gutters need attention. They do not remove the need for it, and a guard that has to be unfastened makes the eventual cleaning a longer job.
They do not fix a gutter that is already failing. A guard will not correct bad pitch, lift a sagging run, seal a leaking seam, clear a blocked outlet or damaged downspout, or change where the water goes once it leaves the house. Those get fixed first, or not at all.
Suitability depends on your house. What is overhanging the roof, what those trees drop, the pitch of the roof, and the condition of the existing gutters all decide whether guards are a good investment here.

No. Guards reduce how much debris gets into the gutter, which usually means clearing them less often. Debris still collects on top of the guard and fine material can still work through, so the gutters still need checking. Anyone promising you will never clean again is selling, not measuring.
It depends on the linear footage of gutter and the type of protection the house needs, so we measure the roofline and give you an itemized estimate rather than a price per foot over the phone.
It depends on the guard and the gutter under it. A guard has to let water through fast enough to keep up with what comes off the roof in a hard East Tennessee storm, and a run with poor pitch or too few downspouts can overflow whether it is guarded or not. We look at the whole path before recommending anything.
In most cases, yes — provided the gutters are sound. We check the pitch, hangers, seams and outlets first. If the run needs repair, that gets done before guards go on, because covering a failing gutter only hides it.
Not entirely, and it depends heavily on the guard. Fine debris like pine needles is the hardest thing for any guard to handle — needles can sit on the mesh surface or work into it. If you have heavy pine cover we will tell you what to realistically expect rather than promise you a sealed system.
No. Overflowing and sagging are gutter problems, not debris problems. A guard does not change the pitch of a run, lift a gutter that has pulled away, or clear a blocked outlet or downspout. Those get repaired first.
We will show you the material we intend to use on your house and explain what it handles and what it does not, before you agree to anything. We do not publish a single default product, because the right choice depends on what is coming off your roof and the condition of the gutters.
If rotted fascia, soft soffit, or water damage behind the gutter line is discovered during the project, we stop and document the problem with photos. We explain what we found and why it matters, then provide a written Change Order before moving forward.
Rotted wood gets dealt with before anything goes back up over it — that is what the Change Order is for.
