Our Painting Workmanship Warranty
MI Homesiding & Roofing provides a 5-year limited workmanship warranty on qualifying painting work. That is our labor — the preparation and the application — and it is ours, not the manufacturer’s.
Keeping the two apart matters, because they cover different things and most quotes blur them into one reassuring sentence:
- Our workmanship warranty covers how the work was done: how the surface was prepared and how the coating was applied. Five years, on qualifying painting work.
- The manufacturer’s product warranty covers the coating itself, for peeling or blistering, and it excludes labor in writing. Its coverage is set per product and its terms are the manufacturer’s, not ours.
So Sherwin-Williams does not cover our labor, and we do not cover the paint. We will not call our warranty “lifetime” — it is five years — and we will not hand you a manufacturer’s document and let you read it as ours.

The figure we can point to is the manufacturer’s: SuperDeck Waterborne Semi-Transparent Stain carries a 3-Year Limited Warranty against peeling and blistering, and a penetrating semi-transparent stain is designed to wear away gradually rather than peel. More pigment generally means longer between recoats, so a solid stain holds longer than a semi-transparent one. South-facing sections and fences near sprinklers wear fastest. Do you have a Sherwin-Williams contractor account?
Yes. We use Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck stain, sealer, and deck wash exclusively for fence projects. Sherwin-Williams gives us access to premium products and technical color matching that big-box stains cannot match.
Can you stain a fence that has old peeling stain?
Yes, but the old stain must be fully removed first through pressure washing and sometimes light sanding. Skipping this step causes the new stain to peel off within a season.
What if you find rotted posts during prep?
We stop, document with photos, and provide a written Change Order. Rotted posts and damaged boards are repaired before staining continues. Rot is repaired before anything is stained over it.
